                                What inspired you to take up a career in academia, especially in the field of law? 

                                After graduating from Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla, I didn’t initially see myself in academia despite being a top student. I continued at the same university for my master’s in Intellectual Property Rights. In 2007, I began teaching as an Assistant Professor at the LR Institute of Law. Over the next 15 years, I worked at several universities, including IEC University and Maharaja Agrasen University, before joining Shoolini University in 2017 to help establish its law department. Here, I truly discovered my passion for teaching and research, and I am committed to making impactful contributions to the community and the university through my expertise in Legal Sciences.

Our students engage in numerous seminars, discussions, and workshops focusing on critical issues like human rights, abuse of women and children, and human trafficking.

                              2. Books and Beyond: A New Chapter at Penguin Random House 

                                Life is full of unexpected twists, and working at a publishing house like Penguin Random House has been one of them. As an avid reader, I could never have pictured myself here, yet here I am. My experience here has been an overwhelming process of learning. From applying to getting accepted, I learned to be patient and trust in God’s timing.  

                                I will never forget my first day at work. My nerves got the better of me, and I survived on a bar of chocolate for the entire day — just because I was too anxious to eat in the office. The sight of colourful books lining the shelves and the smell of coffee wafting through the air made the place feel more like a chic cafe than a typical office.  

                                Stepping into unchartered territory, I have learnt so much. This gives me the strength to face the future with confidence. Yet, I remain humble, aware there’s still much to learn. I’m grateful for the wonderful people I’ve met. Their presence transformed mundane experiences into an exciting adventure. 

                                Initially, tales of the tough corporate life worried me, but luckily, my first stint as an intern was really positive. I spent my days crafting newsletters, chasing down media platforms and influencers for collaborations, brainstorming fresh marketing ideas, drafting pitches for upcoming books, and watching how our titles performed on Amazon. 

                                As time progressed, each day brought a new challenge, and I learned a bit more with each one. Soon, I discovered that this hands-on, learn-as-you-go method enhanced my skills and made work more fun. This was an important lesson as it taught me to love what I do and enjoy new beginnings. 

                                I also deeply appreciate my professors, who supported me from the beginning. They were there when I felt lost, choosing my path, and cheering me on during my interviews. Their guidance has been invaluable. Life’s outcomes may be uncertain, but I remain optimistic and view every experience as an opportunity to grow.

                                Her fascination with Biotechnology began at the age of 12, and it flourished during her undergraduate years at Shoolini University.                                 Shoolini University recently organised two cultural events celebrating the rich traditions of students from Northeast India and South India at the Open Air Theatre (OAT).

                                On April 15th, students from the Northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, and Sikkim came together to present their vibrant cultures and customs.                                 Similarly, on April 18th and 19th, the South Indian students of Shoolini University celebrated their regional New Year festivals, including Tamil Puthandu, Telugu Kannada Ugadi, and Malayalam Vishu. The celebration started with a movie night where they enjoyed ‘Manjummel Boys’ at the Cineplex on the campus. The following day, a small ritual ceremony was performed as a form of respect to the Gods before they proceeded to other activities of the day. The Kathak dance performance by the South Indian students was equally mesmerising, drawing the spectators to their feet in an attempt to emulate the artists. The day was filled with not only fun activities but also ended with an unforgettable food festival where they served various authentic South Indian dishes, including delectable sweet Pongal, tangy lemon rice, savoury tamarind rice, comforting coconut rice, and different flavours of Dosa, for which South Indians are known.

                                In an innovative stride toward enhancing road safety, Assistant Prof Brij Bhushan Sharma of Shoolini University has developed and patented a state-of-the-art system to detect drunk drivers. This groundbreaking technology, which utilises an Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller and an MQ-3 gas sensor module, is designed to detect alcohol levels near the driver and provide immediate alerts through LED indicators.

                                Despite rigorous laws and periodic police checks, the menace of drunk driving continues to escalate, contributing to 41% of traffic-related fatalities, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Traditional methods of detection, which often involve manual checks or medical examinations, have proved insufficient in effectively curbing this dangerous behaviour.

                                Assistant Prof Sharma’s drunk drivers detection system offers a proactive solution by automatically detecting alcohol concentrations of 1000ppm or higher around the driver. Once detected, the sensor’s output triggers the Arduino controller, which activates an LED light indication, signalling that the driver may be under the influence of alcohol.

                                The inspiration for this device struck Assistant Prof Sharma during a routine drive, where he encountered a police checkpoint. Observing the inefficiencies of the manual checking process, he envisioned a built-in vehicle system that could streamline the detection process, thereby enhancing efficiency and reducing roadblocks.

                                “This system is designed not just to detect but also to alert surrounding road users, thereby acting as a deterrent to drunk driving,” stated Assistant Prof Sharma. With no existing products in the market, this invention could revolutionise how vehicle safety and driver sobriety are monitored, potentially saving countless lives and enhancing road safety standards globally.
