In this heart-warming tale of perseverance and determination, this young woman from a modest financial background achieved international success in the Hospitality industry. Despite the challenges she faced, including the loss of her father in 2022, Aarzoo remained resolute in her pursuit of a better life for herself and her family.

Though an average student, she always dreamt of training abroad and learning from diverse cultures. Driven by her aspirations, she dedicated herself to her studies, unwaveringly determined to find a pathway to transform her dreams into reality.

The year 2023 became a turning point for Aarzoo when she received a life-changing offer from the prestigious Ramada Kuala Lumpur City Centre, one of the most renowned hotels in the city. Overjoyed with the opportunity to train and work abroad, Aarzoo embraced the opportunity.

Upon arriving in Kuala Lumpur, Aarzoo was captivated by the city’s vibrant energy and rich cultural tapestry. Nestled in the heart of the city, the Ramada exuded grandeur and elegance, leaving her awestruck. • Fueling the Future: Researchers Develop Eco-Friendly Biodiesel

    Om Kumar Jha

A team of scientists from Shoolini University has developed an inexpensive and eco-friendly method to make biodiesel from bio-waste using a unique algae called Chlorella Pyrenoidosa.
The process involves growing the algae with bio-waste like dairy whey or other food and drink waste. Biodiesel is produced using a chemical reaction called transesterification. Use of ultrasonic technology can optimise chemical reaction, resulting in a cleaner fuel that can replace traditional petrol and diesel fuels.

Biodiesel can fuel diesel engines in cars, trucks, buses, and other vehicles. It can be blended with petroleum diesel or used as a standalone fuel. Further, it can also be used as heating oil in homes and businesses, providing an alternative to traditional fossil fuels. Besides, biodiesel can generate electricity in power plants and it can also be used as a lubricant or solvent in industrial processes.
“The new method can reduce waste from many industries and lessen our reliance on traditional diesel fuels, promoting sustainability,” said Director of Research Dr Saurabh Kulshrestha, who is heading the team of researchers working on the project.

Researchers have found that using algae to produce eco-friendly biodiesel is a renewable resource and produces fewer greenhouse gases. The algae can multiply in ponds and other water sources with minimal nutrition. The biodiesel produced from this process was found to be the same as traditional diesel in terms of performance. This new invention offers a promising alternative to conventional diesel fuels and can create a more sustainable future.

Prof Ranade’s artistic journey began as an intern under the guidance of renowned Indian animator Ram Mohan in 1989, after completing her master’s degree. Following her internship, she worked for two years as a filmmaker at the TATA Institute of Social Sciences, where she focused on themes such as mental health, blind parents raising sighted children, and the social implications of art.

In 1996, Prof Ranade completed her Master’s in Philosophy and produced her first animation film, ‘Mani’s Dying,’ the same year. This film was based on Kosala, a groundbreaking Marathi novel published in 1906.

Prof Ranade returned to the Industrial Design Centre at IIT Bombay in 2001 and established the centre’s first degree program in animation. The first batch of students graduated from the program in 2006. Additionally, she was one of the founding members of the Damroo project, which aimed to create content for children. Under this project, she worked closely with children and produced films and books for them. Her contributions also include illustrating books for some of the country’s top publishers such as Scholastic, Ekalavya, Pratham, and Karadi Tales.

Growing up, Prof Ranade was passionate about art and drawing, and her parents supported her career aspirations. She earned an MPhil in animation from the Royal College of Art in London. The subject of her thesis was ‘Indigenous Images and Narratives for Socially Relevant Animator.’
