  • Charting the Future with Online & Distance Education

Shoolini University’s Centre of Distance and Online Education, inaugurated this year, is another step towards a more inclusive, adaptable, and affordable education paradigm. Spearheading this initiative is Ashish Khosla, the President of AI and Online Education. In conversation with Gautam Sukhija, he gives a primer about the functioning of the centre, and the importance of virtual learning programs in the evolving education landscape.

What’s the difference between online education and distance education?

Online education, a recent initiative recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), enables students to undergo their entire study regime online. This includes video lectures, classes, and examinations. In contrast, distance education maintains a more traditional approach. Students receive designated books for study and are mandated to spend two weeks on campus, culminating in offline examinations.

Which subjects are available for online programs at Shoolini University?

Shoolini University offers a diverse range of online programs. These include MBA with various specialisations, BBA, MA in English Literature, and BA in Journalism and Mass Communication. We offer a BCom program to those interested in distance learning.

Can students interact with teachers for clarification?

Absolutely. Students can engage with their teachers online on a daily basis. They are encouraged to ask questions, seek clarification, and participate in discussion forums. Our faculty prioritises responding to these queries.

Could you elaborate on the admission eligibility criteria?

The eligibility criteria is aligned with UGC guidelines. For undergraduate courses, prospective students must have passed their 10+2 examinations. For our MBA program, candidates should have secured a minimum of 50 per cent in graduation.

What can you tell us about the Pay-After-Placement scheme?

The Pay-After-Placement scheme is one of Shoolini University’s distinctive offerings, specifically for BBA and MBA candidates. We have collaborations across five industry sectors – banking, insurance, retail, business process outsourcing, hospitality, and pharma. Students enrolled under this scheme must pay half their fees at the onset. The remaining balance is settled once they obtain a job post-graduation.

Are there any plans to introduce new programs?

Indeed, Shoolini University Chancellor, Prof PK Khosla, recently shared that Computer Science courses like BCA and MCA would soon be launched. However, it’s worth noting that our current BBA and MBA programs hold significant regard in the academic and professional community. Shoolini University is also pioneering efforts in gamified teaching. Our proprietary AI-driven application, ‘Sikandar’, assists students in refining their communication skills. Games like Space Invaders, Snakes and Ladders, and Hangman have been integrated to make the learning process more engaging

  • BBA vs BCA – Which Has More Scope?

After Class XII, everyone looks for the best career option, right? If you have already chosen the top 2 courses at Shoolini University but are still confused, it’s okay. The battle of BBA vs BCA is never-ending, but the results are always mind-blowing.

If you like coding, technology, computers, and all the tech things, you should go for a BCA study program. However, if you want to deal with people, the market, customer experience, and business, BBA is the perfect match for you.

But what if you are okay with both? In such a scenario, you must decide which study course will give you the maximum outcome.

But before that, you need to analyse at what stage you are in your life. Do you want a job right after you leave college or still have a year or two to gain experience?

This analysis will give you your answer. Furthermore, as we talk about undergraduate courses, we need to see which sector has more opportunities and chances to grow faster. That being said, let’s dive into the topic.

    Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)

    Scope of BBA

The best way to decide who is better in the battle of BBA vs BCA is to see which study program has more career scope. Bachelor of Business Administration deals with business, human resources, customer experiences, etc.

Studying BBA will give you exposure to the business world, like hotels, e-commerce businesses, banking, consulting, retail, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship. BBA equips students with strong communication, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills, making them suitable candidates for management and leadership roles in organisations.

    Things You Will Learn:

BBA is all about finances, marketing strategies, driving sales, etc. The BBA program at Shoolini is a 3-year course where you can study subjects like:

    • Business Management
    • Communications Skills
    • Microeconomics
    • Financial Accounting
    • IT Tools
    • Income Tax Law Practice

You will need these skills if you want to excel in your career. If you look closely, you will realise all these practices are fundamental and applicable to almost all the businesses and companies you may apply to.

Thus, the job scope is vast. But most BBA students are told that they will not get a job because it has no scope. If you don’t have any practical experience, your degree will be useless in the end.

BBA vs BCA, it does not matter how much you compare them. These two are pretty different. BBA graduates also need a strong internship background to crack that interview. Moreover, just going through the books will not help you at all.

What Shoolini University Offers BBA Students

    BCA BBA at Shoolini University

Shoolini, the No.1 Private University in India (THE World University Rankings 2023 & QS World University Rankings 2024), believes that no study program is complete without proper research or practice. • Teacher/Lecturer

BBA vs BCA: Which is Better?

Both study programs are valuable. However, one thing that separates them is a high-paying job right from the start. With a BBA degree, it becomes a bit challenging because salary increments are based on experience.

On the other hand, BCA graduates can claim appraisal through updated skills. But that does not mean that you will get a job right after college. If it’s Shoolini University, the scenario becomes different because Shoolini focuses on giving you real market experience, ensuring your high-paying job from the beginning.

    Final Statement

It does not matter which study program you choose, you need to be attentive to opportunities. Attending lectures and cramming up on theory alone will not help you. The more internships and research programs you can participate in, your career opportunities improve. We ensure you get the best out of your study program. It’s a Shoolini’s promise!

  • Rohit Sharma: A Trailblazer in Biotech Research on Human Ageing

In the ever-evolving landscape of scientific research, few individuals stand out for their groundbreaking work and unwavering dedication to a single cause. One such luminary is Assistant Professor Rohit Sharma from the School of Biotechnology, Shoolini University. A distinguished biotechnology researcher with three government fellowships, his pioneering studies on human ageing have garnered widespread recognition.

His paper, ‘A Cellular Senescence-Centric Integrated Approach to Understanding Organismal Aging’ recently cited in a prestigious journal called Nature Reviews Nephrology, offers profound insights into the factors that influence the ageing process, opening new avenues for future inventions and discoveries about the eternal mystery of “longevity”. The project, worth Rs 107 Lakh, was funded by DST, Govt of India.

In 2021, when Asst Prof Rohit Sharma joined Shoolini, he had already been pondering this “problem”. However, it was on the inspiring campus of Shoolini University that this turned into an innovative idea. His commitment and dedication to research and idea generation came from his passion for solving “problems”. Even during his doctorate studies, human ageing always made him question the whys and hows of it. Emphasising the factors behind human ageing, he explained that gut health was a major player.

Like any other research journey, he said, there are always challenges, and he had his fair share. “But with the active support of my team, I overcame all hurdles,” he added.

When asked about his research experience with Shoolini, Asst Prof Sharma strongly emphasised how the entire environment of Shoolini induces research and spurs the brain to think beyond the conventional. Moreover, access to a wide range of sources made his work easier.

Message for Researchers: Every small idea is important. The first step of an invention is generating an idea, which is a monumental piece of work in itself. So, all aspiring researchers must let their ideas fly and find a “solution” to a “problem” they relate to most.

Soul of any Research: Following the “problem” without any excuses and with whatever sources one has.

Success Mantra: Find a “problem” you relate with and follow it with whatever resources you have till the end!

We congratulate Asst Prof Rohit Sharma on his achievements and thank him for his valuable contributions to Biotechnology and Shoolini. We look forward to witnessing his involvement in other biotechnological advancements, contributing to excellence in the field.

As per the highly anticipated academic calendar released recently by the Registrar, the academic registrations will begin on 16th August. The highlight of the calendar is the Induction and Orientation program, designed to make the newcomers’ transition to university life smooth and unforgettable.

This program is planned in two parts, keeping in mind the needs of both Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) students. The entire week, from 16th to 19th August, is dedicated to the new students and is called ‘The Wow Week’ or the ‘Week of Welcome’

For the UG students, the festivities will be in full swing from the 16th to the 18th of August. During these three days, newcomers will engage in various activities and learn about the academic and extracurricular happenings on the campus according to their interests and passion.

They’ll get to know the My Shoolini App and its features, meet Chancellor PK Khosla, interact with faculty members and seniors, and participate in fun events like Meet and Greet, Club Mela, and DJ night. This will provide an energetic and supportive environment, allowing students to showcase their talents.

Not to be outdone, the PG students’ Induction and Orientation will take place from 18th August to 19th August. Recognising that PG students often bring diverse experiences, the university has tailored this program accordingly. The two-day event will offer specialised workshops based on the My Shoolini App, networking opportunities with the faculty and seniors, and mentorship sessions, including fun-packed events.

Apart from this, the university has promised an unforgettable experience for the incoming students (Both UG & PG), packed with fun-filled activities, campus tours, and opportunities to interact with senior students who serve as friendly guides during the orientation period.

The driving force behind this mega event is the newly elected Campus Ambassadors and ‘Buddies’ from the Buddy program. These seniors are already in close interaction with the new students, helping them with their queries, making them comfortable and giving them updates on what will happen next.

“We aim to create an environment where students feel excited, supported, and ready for their new journey. The Induction and Orientation program is a blend of learning, exploration, and celebration,” said Poonam Nanda, Dean of Student Welfare (DSW).

The news of the Induction and Orientation program has sparked enthusiasm among both the new and existing students. Seniors are eager to welcome the newcomers and extend their warmest greetings.

Q1: Your dedication to student welfare is evident in the success of various initiatives and events on campus. Can you share some of your most memorable experiences in this role?

I have had countless memorable experiences as the Dean of Student Welfare. Seeing the transformation of students, from their initial days on campus to their growth as confident and responsible individuals, has been immensely gratifying. The passion and dedication the freshers display in supporting voluntary initiatives and events, such as YouWeCan, have left a lasting impression on me. Whether it’s organising seminars, cleaning drives, or volunteering for social causes, their enthusiasm and selflessness inspire me every day.

Moreover, collaborating with organisations like Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy (IAMD) has been an extraordinary experience. The emotional growth and empathy students develop by engaging with children facing significant challenges have been remarkable. The conduct art workshops, dance sessions as well as special programs during festivals like Holi, Christmas, Diwali, New Year.

Our students have now become a strong support system for these children, and it fills me with pride to see how they are cultivating the values of empathy and well-being.

Q2: You have encouraged students to communicate openly and seek support. How do you ensure a supportive environment for mental health on campus?

Creating a supportive environment for mental health is our top priority. We actively encourage students to discuss their concerns with friends, family, teachers, and the counselling support available on campus. Breaking societal taboos and addressing sensitive topics is essential to this approach. By providing a safe space for open discussions, we strive to promote mental well-being and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

Additionally, we invite survivors and experts to share their stories and insights, conveying to students that they are not alone in their struggles. This sense of community and understanding goes a long way in ensuring students feel comfortable seeking help and support when needed.

Q3: You have fought and overcome cancer, which is a tremendous feat. How has this experience shaped your outlook on life and influenced your role as the Dean of Student Welfare?

Battling cancer was undoubtedly one of the most challenging phases of my life. However, it also became a turning point that strengthened my resilience and made me empathetic. Facing such a life-threatening situation made me acutely aware of the struggles others might be facing. This experience deepened my commitment to fostering a supportive and caring environment for our students. I encourage open communication where everyone seeks help and support whenever needed. My battle with cancer has taught me to cherish every moment and inspire others to do the same.

Q4: How does the university maintain a strong alumni network and support the professional growth of its graduates?

The alumni network of Shoolini University is a strong and vibrant community. We call the Induction Week the ‘Week Of Welcome’ or the WOW Week. We put in all our efforts to ensure that students have a seamless experience of settling in and getting familiar with the campus.

The freshers get a chance to interact with the Vice Chancellor, Deans, Faculty and fellow students. We explain all about our academic and extracurricular activities. Students learn all about the clubs and societies on the campus and then make a selection as per their interest. The evenings are laced with fun, games and music during the Zumba Night, Club Mela, Meet ‘n’ Greet, etc.

Q7: What are your aspirations for the university’s future, and how do you envision its continued growth and impact?

My aspirations for Shoolini University revolve around creating an even more nurturing and empowering environment for our students. I envision a future where the university becomes a global hub for innovation, research, and holistic education. Our focus will remain on empowering students to become compassionate leaders who bring positive change to the world.
