The entire star cast, besides the producer Ojaswwee Sharma, were present at the film screening. These included Bhasker Pandey, Abhinav Sharma, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Sandeep Kumar, Mohit Verma, Sarvpriya Nirmohi, Shridhar Gupta, Rita Dutt and Varun Narang.

The Innovation
The ‘Water Conservation & Utilisation System’ introduces a system for efficiently conserving and utilising rainwater, applicable in agricultural settings and for residential rainwater harvesting. Notably, its assembly process is straightforward, consisting of three steps: head, neck, and bottom, ensuring user-friendly installation.
One of its key strengths lies in its versatility, as it can be deployed across various terrains, ranging from small to large agricultural fields, as well as hilly and flat landscapes.
The system comprises essential components such as a conical collector, designed to gather rainwater and an efficient filtration system for water purification. This collected water is then stored in a water conservation tank linked to another tank.
Two transportation vessels facilitate the movement of water, with one transferring water from the collector to the conservation tank and the other from the conservation tank to the supplementary reservoir.
Additional features include a siphoning port for managing excess water, a valve mechanism for regulating water flow into the conservation tank, and adjustment ports for fine-tuning filtration processes.
The system also includes channels for controlled irrigation by strategically releasing stored water. A supporting connector assembly ensures stability and structural integrity.
Furthermore, a dedicated pumping system facilitates efficient water distribution, catering to various irrigation methods, including drip and sprinkle systems.

This innovation began to take shape in his high school days. Seeing the struggles of farmers in his hometown of Prasala (Mandi, Himachal Pradesh) with insufficient water conservation in terraced fields sparked his desire to find a solution. Yet, as a student, he required additional resources to bring his ideas to life.
Fast forward to his undergraduate studies at Shoolini University in 2021. He says, “Under the expert mentorship of my professor, Saurabh Kulshrestha, I was able to turn my idea into a practical design. The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell at Shoolini University played a crucial role in obtaining utility status for the invention. After two years of hard work, our efforts culminated in a publication that set the stage for showcasing the invention at the Technology Transfer Summit 2024, hosted by Gujarat Technological University (GTU) and the Government of India.”

Under the mentorship of Dean Research Prof Saurabh Kulshreshtha, Vanshika explored the intriguing world of mycoviruses, also known as fungal viruses. Mycoviruses are known for lessening the harmful effects of fungi that damage crops. They offer an eco-friendly alternative to chemical pesticides, particularly fungicides commonly used in agriculture.
It was her mother, a botanist, who nurtured Vanshika’s interest in agriculture. She grew up learning about plants and agriculture from her. As time passed, her curiosity led her to explore biotechnology and the world of research. Being an SRP student at Shoolini, she was admitted to the Molecular Plant Microbe Interaction (MPMI) laboratory. There, she began studying mycoviruses, gaining hands-on experience and a deep understanding of these fungal viruses.
Her interest in mycoviruses led her to Japan. Recognising the expertise of Prof Sotaro Chiba at Nagoya University in this field, she wanted to continue her studies under his guidance. Before applying for the prestigious MEXT scholarship, Vanshika took the initiative to connect with Prof Chiba. Impressed by the scholar’s passion and dedication, Prof Chiba agreed to accept her as a master’s student on the condition that she secured the MEXT fellowship.
The MEXT scholarship process spans a year and involves four rigorous rounds, including document submission, research proposals, interviews, and approval from chosen professors. With over 1000 applicants annually, only a handful progress to the final round. Vanshika emphasises the importance of early contact with professors. Securing Prof Chiba’s acceptance early on was crucial for her success. She highlights the risk of losing the opportunity if a chosen professor denies acceptance in the final round.
Her research topic during her master’s was ‘Biological Mechanism of Mycoviruses in Reducing the Pathogenicity of Fusarium boothii’. She focused on this topic because it aligned with promoting sustainable agriculture. Vanshika pointed out, “Nowadays, our plates are full of harmful chemical pesticides. By studying mycoviruses, I want to contribute to food security in a sustainable manner.”
After excelling in her master’s program, Vanshika applied for a PhD extension through the MEXT program. She found the application process straightforward. The Shoolini star presented her research proposal to the university commission and then cleared the interview with the committee and embassy members. As a result, she successfully secured the MEXT extension and was accepted for a PhD program.

The Centre of Psychology and Behavioural Sciences at Shoolini University, in collaboration with Speaking Cube, an online mental health consulting foundation, and the University of Venda, South Africa, hosted the 4th Virtual International Conference on ‘Mindful Trauma Management and Happy Relationships’.

The second day of the conference featured engaging sessions led by experts like Rajkiran Donthu and Lobsang Bhutia. Advocate Pankaj Chetri and Congress spokesperson (Uttarakhand) enlightened the gathering about drug abuse and its impact on day-to-day life. Advocate Pankaj Chetri also felicitated the creative team.

The Shoolini University Literature Festival concluded with a powerful tribute to courage and resilience, announcing the inaugural Pallavi Sarswatula Memorial Award winners.
This prestigious award honours the memory of Pallavi Sarswatula, a young woman whose strong spirit left an indelible mark on many lives before her untimely passing due to cancer just two months after she graced the festival stage in March 2023. Pallavi’s legacy continues through her significant contributions, including her co-authored book ‘Don’t Ask Me How I Am Doing’, which captured the collective journey of young cancer survivors and caregivers. Her story deeply inspired the festival’s panel of judges, including S Prabhakar, Pallavi’s father, and the professors of Liberal Arts at Shoolini University.
At the award ceremony, Priyadarshini Narendra and Anisha Motwani received the Pallavi Sarswatula Memorial Award. Their collaborative work, ‘She Storms the Norm’, highlights the triumphs and challenges of working women who defy societal expectations and embody the resilience and diversity of the female experience.

Shoolini University trustee and Director of the Literature Festival, Ashoo Khosla, emphasised the event’s commitment to celebrating the courage and narrative strength of women authors. “The Shoolini Literature Festival remains dedicated to honouring voices like Pallavi’s, which inspire and empower through storytelling,” she stated. Ashoo Khosla, also the Chief Learning Officer at Shoolini University, added that the purpose of the award was to inspire and support women who transformed adversity into powerful narratives.

Shoolini University celebrates the achievement of Prof Somesh Sharma from the School of Bioengineering and Food Technology, who has been awarded a Fellowship by COMFOCUS in the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research project.
Prof Sharma’s research focused on consumer preferences for yoghurts in the Slovakian market, a study that holds significant potential for the future of food consumer science. This initiative, funded by the European Union, aims to promote open science in the field, ensuring its resilience and adaptability.
The university supported this project with a grant of Rs 50,000, demonstrating its commitment to fostering research excellence. Additionally, Prof Sharma received a scholarship amount of 2985 euros from COMFOCUS for his work. He expressed his gratitude towards Shoolini Chancellor Prof PK Khosla for the continuous support and guidance provided to all researchers on campus.
About COMFOCUS
COMFOCUS is a European powerhouse, uniting universities and research institutes with one powerful vision: To make food consumer science future-proof through Open Science. The project aims to provide the academic and private research community with transnational access to high-quality services and resources of nine excellent research laboratories using cutting-edge technologies.
The Application Process
To be considered for participation, applicants must submit a concept note as an abstract through the COMFOCUS website. Professor Somesh Sharma submitted his concept note on August 19, 2023. Applicants can choose from nine laboratories under COMFOCUS based on their interests. Professor Sharma opted for laboratories in Ireland and Slovakia. His concept was accepted by the Laboratory of Consumer Sciences at the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, Slovakia.
What he did in Slovakia
During his 21-day International Faculty program in Slovakia, Prof Sharma investigated consumer preferences for yoghurts in the Slovakian market, focusing on factors like fat content, health benefits, and visual appeal. This innovative research employed cutting-edge technology like face readers and eye-tracking equipment. Various types of yoghurts, including those with probiotics and non-probiotics, were chosen from supermarkets. They were categorised into traditional yoghurts and yoghurts prepared by multinational companies with probiotic characteristics.
In the study, participants were first asked about their age, gender, and dietary habits. They then tasted different yoghurts while their eye movements and facial expressions were closely monitored using specialised devices. These included a face reader and an eye tracker, which helped to pinpoint which aspects of the packaging caught the consumers’ attention and how they responded to various flavours and textures of the yoghurts.
Talking about the project, Prof Sharma said, “This research is groundbreaking. By utilising eye-tracking and face-reading technology, we’ve gained invaluable insights into consumer behaviour towards yoghurt packaging and their preferences for flavours and textures. This data is key to revolutionising product development, refining marketing strategies, and elevating consumer satisfaction within the yoghurt industry.”
